How much does your aircon cost per month?
Estimate the monthly electricity cost of your aircon and how much an inverter unit saves.
- Energy per month

- Per year

- Per hour of use

How the estimate is calculated
We use typical average power for each size while the aircon is running: about 1.1 kW for a 1 ton non-inverter unit, scaled for other sizes. Inverter units are assumed to average about 45% less once the room reaches the set temperature.
Monthly cost = power (kW) × hours per day × days × rate per kWh × number of units.
Real consumption depends on the room, the set temperature, insulation, outdoor heat and how clean the unit is. Setting 24–25°C instead of 18–20°C and keeping filters clean are the cheapest ways to save.
Questions
How much electricity does a 1 ton aircon use?
A 1-ton non-inverter unit draws around 1.0–1.3 kW while the compressor runs. An inverter unit of the same size usually averages much less once the room is cool.
What electricity rate should I use?
Use the total rate per kWh from your latest electricity bill. The residential tariff is 18 halalas per kWh up to 6,000 kWh a month and 30 halalas above that, plus 15% VAT – about SAR 0.21 per kWh for most homes.
Does cleaning the aircon reduce the bill?
Yes. Dirty filters and coils make the compressor work longer to reach the set temperature.
